ABOUT CIN

Cultural identities open to public checking.

CIN is designed as a cross-border system: each country can register cultural works through verified members. The public can check a number without an account, while numbers not approved by an administrator are not shown as active records.

Who can become a member?

Cultural institutions, educational institutions, public agencies, community organizations, and community/custodian representatives from any country may apply for an account. An administrator reviews each application before activation. Every cultural work also receives a separate review before publication.

THE INITIATIVE

Cultural literacy meets virtual education.

CIN is an initiative of the Indonesian Literacy Association and Virtual Education Academy to connect cultural literacy, verifiable records, and digital learning.

CULTURAL LITERACY

Indonesian Literacy Association

Within the CIN initiative, literacy helps people read cultural information in context, understand its sources, and recognize the communities or custodians connected to it.

DIGITAL LEARNING

Virtual Education Academy

Within the CIN initiative, virtual education creates a pathway for using cultural records as starting points for online learning and heritage discovery.

RECORDING FRAMEWORK

Adapting principles of UNESCO’s 2003 Convention.

The Convention describes intangible cultural heritage as practices, knowledge, skills, and expressions recognized and continually recreated by communities. CIN applies that idea to how records are submitted and checked.

01

Community recognition

Records identify the communities, groups, or individuals connected to a cultural work.

02

Living heritage

Cultural works are treated as evolving, transmitted practices rather than fixed forms judged from outside.

03

Participation and consent

Member submissions must describe custodian involvement and confirm consent for the information shown.

04

Responsible documentation

Do not publish restricted, sacred, or sensitive knowledge. Customary access practices and community rights must be respected.

CIN is an identification and public-checking system. It is not a UNESCO designation, endorsement, or official list, and it does not replace inventories that States Parties are responsible for under the Convention.
